Wyken Field

…Specialists in growing unusual vegetable varieties

Welcome

Wyken Field is a market garden which gained its organic status with Demeter in December 2008. We specialise in growing unusual vegetable varieties commercially and we buy heritage seeds from specialist seed banks in England and France. We sell plants as well as produce and you can order these to be delivered locally. We also sell free range organic eggs.

We are an experimental unit trying to grow as much food of saleable quality as possible whilst using the least inputs as we can and keeping the use of fossil fuels, in particular, to a minimum. We use biointensive techniques to grow salad crops to sell to local restaurants and bars and we also have a box scheme which provides staples such as potatoes, parsnip, swede, carrots & onions together with fresh greens and salad leaves over the winter. In the summer, potatoes are still an important crop included in all our boxes but we also specialise in many different varieties of tomatoes, especially tasty, fresh “ripened on the vine” beef steak varieties which are more difficult to grow at home.

Wyken Field supports people growing as much of their own fresh produce as possible on allotments or at home. But there is always something you can’t grow and inevitably there are always crop failures. This is where we can step into the breach to ensure that you get the quality of veg you are used to – freshly picked and grown with due care and attention.
